State Veterinarian Boyd Parr, who directs Clemson LPH, said farmers should check their animals for injuries, including feet and skin in animals that have had prolonged exposure to flooded areas, and for wire or string wrapped around limbs that may not be immediately obvious.
If animals have been off regular feeding schedules, they should be returned to regular diets slowly, he said. Proportion access to water gradually, especially for pigs: Offer small amounts initially to avoid salt poisoning. Expect that animals may be temporarily disoriented, nervous and even fractious following an emergency, since the character, feel, smell, look and layout of their surroundings has changed. As much as possible, use familiar personnel and protocols to assist them to re-acclimate. Reach Tom Hallman at She didn't plan the baby, but seemed way too lax with using protection, so I had to wonder why she was so surprised that she was pregnant.
Not only did she continue to down caffeine like it was water, but she made zero attempts to protect herself and her unborn baby from danger. At one point, after arguing with Tomasetti, Kate runs from their home, without her weapons, even though she knew she was being targeted by a gunman.
Of course, I knew all along what would happen with the baby, and I felt that the ending was just too patronizing to the readers. I also was skeptical regarding the 'killer' hogs, and, being as Kate knew the fate of the victim, I wanted to klunk her over the head when she went into the barn, putting herself in the very same position. It was the true definition of insanity! I will read the next book in the series, but I am thinking that, unless I see more personal growth from Chief Kate Burkholder, I may be ready to move on to something else, and perhaps the author should give thought to this, too.
Love her books especially this series.
This was a great book, however I just can't get past Kate's relationship issues. Is it just me or are she and John moving painfully slow in their relationship?
Come on now, they are acting like shy teenagers who can't talk to each other. I got so annoyed every time he popped up and they had a ridiculous exchange. It seems as though he truly cares and Kate just can't make up her mind. As for the "shocking" revelation about their relationship- I was very disappointed at how little Kate cared.
She did absolutely nothing that another woman would have. She didn't seem to care, didn't take any precautions to safeguard herself, etc. I was let down when at the end, what I expected was exactly what happened.
And they still don't seem to be able to resolve their relationship! Get on with it already. I did enjoy the mystery in the book however.

"After the Storm" is a song by Colombian-American singer Kali Uchis. It was released on January 12, by Virgin EMI Records and Interscope Records.
Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. After the Storm written by Linda Costillo is a wonderful suspense novel involving the Amish. This book grabbed my attention from the first page and kept my interest all the way to the end.
This is another story involving former Amish woman Kate Burkholder. I have read all of the Kate Burkholder books and was never disappointed with any of them. Linda gives her readers a well written, fact based story of mystery.
In this novel there was a terrible storm producing an F3 tornado that destroys several areas of Painters Mill, Ohio. After the clean up begins skeletal remains are discovered and the real mystery begins. Since the remains are found on an Amish farm that's where Kate starts her investigation. Could an Amish person have committed this crime and tried to hide the evidence?
When several attempts are made on Kate's life she now wonders if an Amish person could be behind it? There's another person of interest involved in the story but that would give away to much information to the readers. Will Kate make it thru this investigation alive and well or will this be the case that stops Kate dead in her tracks? You'll have to read After the Storm to find out?
I was not given a complimentary copy of this novel but lived it so much I am submitting my honest review. I have also rated this novel with a 5 star rating, I would give it more if I could. Congratulations on another suspense filled mystery. I highly recommend this book to all mystery lovers and those who love the Amish genre.
