The breakfast was as large as we wanted. They would cook or bring out as much as we asked. Cowboy's Dream is amazingly wonderful in every way. It is a gorgeous facility with wonderful rooms, each with a different theme. The hosts, Wes and Jessica, are warm, welcoming and very accommodating. The entire place' is filled with incredible memorabilia from Charles and Phyllis Frias life together. Wes gave us a tour and we felt like we were staying in a museum.
Jessica fixed a very gourmet breakfast that was delicious. Staying at Cowboy's Dream was the highlight of our trip through Nevada. Lynn Joe, United States of America. We will be back with our whole family! Would love to share this experience with our kids for a family get together! Staff could not be more accommodating. The breakfasts were fantastic. It is pricey, but should be even more expensive for what you get. We felt special and right at home too! The decor was amazing - no detail left undone! Staff are lovely, the place is really beautiful and interesting, and the dinner and breakfast were very good!
The bath tub was also great!! This property will not disappoint and in fact, will amaze you. The breakfast is amazing and the staff is super fantastic. All review scores Wonderful: We had the Duke room with pictures of John Wayne everywhere. It was a truly unique experience. The room was incredibly luxurious and the bathroom huge with a copper free standing bath and separate shower If you are a fan of all things western, and have seen every John Wayne movie ever made, like my husband, you will love to stay here.
We stayed in the Duke Room, where everything is John Wayne. The rooms are huge, Couldn't have had a nicer stay. Quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable room. Breakfast was delicious as well. Bunkhouse pool table and amenities were fantastic. Exactly what we hoped it would be. Frias would be proud of what she created. This property is not cheap, but the value provided is excellent. Our room "Longhorn" and its bathroom were incredibly luxurious.

Coffee was cold but then again, we were late. Again, it was just us for breakfast. They had two kidlets doing breakfast.
We knew them from the earlier visits, they took care of the outside but now they had been pressed into kitchen duty. They gave the impression that they were none to happy about it. Tried to engage them in conversation but their answers were largely monosyllabic. The lawn looked to be in bad shape, the sparkle and liveliness was gone. The kidlets were outside moving the sprinklers around and didn't seem to be any more animated or engaging doing their outside duties than they did at breakfast.
Unlike our other visit, there wasn't music playing in the main great room. The staff either were complaining about their troubles or for those further down the food chain, looking like rabbits trying to cross desert highway. On edge, jumpy, unhappy. Unwilling to get into a conversation. No life to the place. Our friends, the people who we had met on our earlier trips were all gone. I don't know what that story is but what I do know is the Cowboy's Dream is now gone for us. We will never go back. I would gladly pay more for the warmth and friendly atmosphere that was once there and for which I had returned to experience again.
The fact is that I can stay anywhere I would like. I pay for the experience, not for a bed. We knew about the lives of the people there before, how they came to work at the CD, about their families. They became our friends, just like the Cowboy's Dream saying states. We felt like we knew Charlie and Phyllis and that we were visiting their ranch house. We've recommended Cowboy's Dream to many friends, many of them racers who can easily afford the freight.
That's all in the past. Never again will we recommend it and we will actively deter those who might think about going. And for those of you who might be inclined to go up the hill to the aforementioned Windmill Ridge. We stopped there for lunch on the way North and sensed the changed vibe there as well. Things are tough all over, and will probably get worse still, but smiles are free. I would attribute it to very bad management style.
Whomever the buck stops with is not doing a good job.
The evidence is plain to see. If I saw people working for me who displayed such behavior I would immediately find out who was running the operation and find out why the staff were unhappy. An unhappy bunch of employees can't help but transmit their feelings.
If those feeling get picked up by clients and customers, who are expecting a friendly rather than bored and indifferent attitude, then they will go elsewhere. The woman who was running Cowboy's Dream before understood that and the staff reflected her enthusiasm and attention to detail. The woman running things now is the wrong person for the job. If you had experienced the Cowboy's Dream earlier, the differences are stark and profound.
It's more of a testament to Charlie, something he would have liked. And Charlie was somebody whom I would have liked to meet. Built himself up from humble beginnings to a philanthropist and pillar of the Las Vegas community. But still a Texan. Thought big and Phyllis built him a big monument. I imagine Charlie would have been comfortable at the Cowboy's Dream for it was built to reflect his tastes and interests. Unfortunately it's now only a place to get a bed and nothing more. Somehow I don't think that Phyllis really knows what has happened to her tribute to Charlie because that would mean that I read more into her book than was there.
No greeting, had to find innkeeper in her office. Grumbling about computer problems was our greeting. Went to our room for a quick pit stop since dinner was being served immediately.
Never got a room key the entire stay which I found odd. Left everything in the car while we ate. Was never offered any help with bringing anything in. Dinner setting was way below what we had experienced there before. Napkin made of some spun material that had no absorption quality. Doubt it was really meant to be a napkin. No music in the background. Deathly quiet and still. Dinner was steak and it was cold. My wife said hers was tough and lots of grizzle. The veranda had turned into the staff smoking area. On earlier trips, smoking was only permitted at the fire pit due to guest considerations no doubt.
Little buckets of sand full of cigarette buds. Those were limited to the fire pit area before. Most of the facility was locked up and dark. Again, not what we had expected from our earlier trips. Nobody checked on us after we went outside. Perhaps respecting our privacy. We didn't expect privacy, that's why we were outside our room.
And we are not from Vegas. It is only 90 miles from Vegas. Somehow I don't think that Phyllis really knows what has happened to her tribute to Charlie because that would mean that I read more into her book than was there. Our survey work took longer than anticipated. Where do I begin!
Nobody told us that breakfast was to be served at a specific time. A kidlet knocked on the door and informed us breakfast was ready. Before we always lingered, savoring the experience. Now we wanted it to be over. Our Cowboy's Dream has ended. Where do I begin! This inn was perfect in every way. The rooms were huge. We stayed in the Duke. Everything was John Wayne themed and nicely done.
The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. It had a foyer, huge closet, even bigger bathroom with claw foot copper tub, double copper sinks, and a huge 2 person double headed shower. We also had a nice patio off of the room. The inn is huge for 8 rooms. It has an amazing great room with beautiful leather and cow skin furniture. The dining room is also huge with large oversized leather and wood furniture.
They bring in a chef nightly to make a fantastic gourmet dinner if you choose the dinner plan.
The cowboys breakfast was also wonderful way to start the day. We never ate lunch the whole weekend. We never saw a soul.
