I read Brazen novels because I love the witty dialog which Beck always delivers, I love the situation romances that bloom from completely unromantic origins insert broom closet, here. I love the characters because I can see well rounded character development.

And most of all I love the fantasy. If someone were to write a romance novel about a relationship that spawned from a mutual social group such as a country club or regular office interactions I think the book would be boring. I've worked in an office environment for 17 years and there is nothing I see in my office that makes me feel inspired to write a love story or romance novel. The romance novels traditionally appeal to women because they are centered around fantasy. So like I said, I don't think you can write an exciting romance novel based on a run of the mill office romance.

Now throw in a spur of the moment tryst in a broom closet with an unsuspecting Santa and you've peaked my interest. The premise of this book is a case of mistaken identity during a sexual encounter involving a broom closet and a Santa Claus suit. I can see where some may argue "Santa's not that sexy" but the reason for the encounter in the broom closet had nothing to do with Santa's physical appearance but an attempt to heat up a frozen relationship which was completely backed up and explained in the background of the story.

The subsequent material was a domino effect of real world situations that are not that hard to believe. Many seem to be bothered by the mistaken identity in the supply closet "tango" but I honestly don't think these characters in this situation would have done anything different.

I really like this author and hate to write negative reviews, but this book could have been so much better. The story line is strong and the characters likable. The heroine is an aristocrat forced by disgrace and disownment to work as a governess, helping girls to not end up like she did.

She is hired into a house where the Lord has lost his brother, thereby inheriting not only a title but an invalid widow his brother's and a troubled niece. He's spent 18 years in the military and his way of handling both women in the home is not working as well as it did in the military. It should be a funny and touching situation for the governess to bring this family together. But it feels as if the book was rushed, and the promise of a good read doesn't really materializes because at some point the plot twists become weaker and predictable.

This author and publisher have better releases out there. This book in my opinion only, I am not offended by disagreement and for the artist's sake happy to proven wrong isn't one of the better ones. I did not realize until last night that these books were a series.

Needless to say I read them out of order, but I am happy to realize that it didn't matter too much. I have enjoyed reading this author and will finish all six books in the series. One of the things I like about this author is that she does not have sex in her books, but does a great job relating the emotions and how they feel, which I like.

A Compromising Situation

Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. This book fooled me for a while. I have read so many Regency novels that I thought I knew what to expect. The governess, Miss Maeve Midden, would be caught in a compromising situation hence the title with her employer, Captain Andrew Derhurst - lately having become Lord Rothe - and the two would have to marry. Naturally they would already love each other, probably just not realizing it quite yet. Well, stop that little idea right now.

That is not what happens in this book at all. And for that I am quite thankful. This book takes off in a slightly different direction and does it very well because of the splendid writing talents of Shannon Donnelly.

Lord Rothe's neice, Clarissa, was sixteen years old and had definite ideas about whether or not she needed a governess. Miss Maeve Midden has been sent by an employment agency to take over the job of governess to multiple children in a large family. Somewhere along the way an error occurred and Miss Midden finds herself in the unpleasant situation of having to tell her prospective employer that she cannot accept the position. She wants, above all else, to find a family which will need her for many, many years and which will keep her away from London.
