Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I have very mixed feelings about the rating I am giving this book. The background information and most of the strips chosen for inclusion are excellent and represent the strip quite well. In this I would give it a 5. I would give the overall book a 2 for reproduction. There are folds in many of the strips, the type is blurred, the verbiage is often too blurry to read when magnified, etc. I was very interested in seeing the evolution of the characters over time but most of the early i. Chic Young strips were so small that they were virtually unreadable and magnification only served to make them fuzzy to the point of non-recognition.
The publisher has done the creator and the book a disservice by the below average presentation of many of the strips. The fact that most strips are fine does not even out the significant number that are not. One person found this helpful. It's like buying a Looney Toons video, and discovering they're all late 60s Filmmation Daffy and Speedy.
It's early 60s Popeye Cartoons. It's worse than that, actually. Chic Young's artwork in the 50s - 70s are possibly the best examples of sequential art in the history of the media. Would have loved to see those.
There is no book which covers Blondie's golden age. And that's a shame. If you are a fan of the cartoon strip, Blondie, then you must treasure a copy of this great compendium. Chic Young is one of the best creators of a cartoon character and his creation has entertained millions of fans all over the world.
