Rosalind is the middle daughter of the Earl of Swanlea, elder sister to Juliet, and younger sister to Helena. Clearly, their father is a huge fan of Shakespeare and passed that passion onto Rosalind herself. Much of the banter between Griff and Rosalind involves quoting Mr. It is a lovely book. I just have as many quibbles with it as I have enjoyable aspects. I really cannot forgive the dubious nature of the sex scenes. Also, please never use the word honeypot for a vagina. Besides from being an ass, he can actually be really likable-At least I wanted to flirt with him and talk about all the naughty things in Shakespeare. He's infatuated right from the get go-their meet cute is actually pretty awesome. She comes at him with a sword! Relectura que me hizo bajarle una estrella. Feb 25, C Joy rated it really liked it Shelves: After reading the first few sentences, I was hooked.
I always liked the identity-swapping conflict and anticipating how it'll be resolved. This story was quite unpredictable so that's another plus. While the setting was mostly in Swanlea Park, the characters' wit and banter were exciting enough. I immediately liked Rosalind! I have a thing for independent, sassy, and sharp-tongued heroines.
Aside from her striking good looks and her passion to be an actress, she also has a fancy for loud colors. Sabrina Jeffries certainly does know her Shakespeare since Rosalind and Griff were using quotes for their arguments. It's amusing how they first met. There's a lot of resistance, a lot of cunning, planning, and plotting and revenge.
Lust overcame the characters because of their fierce attraction for each other. It was rampant and addictive for the both of them. Griff liked Rosalind's mind and enjoyed being in her company, and I commend her suspicious nature. Both of them are on equal footing when it comes to their intelligence. While revenge is on Griff's mind, Rosalind only cares about her family. I didn't like the fake earl; even though he's suffering for it out of guilt and remorse, he wasn't really able to redeem himself.
There were a lot of funny moments and I appreciated it. Not all historical romance novels have it and I always love a good laugh. It's amazing how Ms Jeffries construct her characters, Helena, the eldest is beautiful but because of her limp, she's unattractive to the eyes of most people, except for Daniel of course.
Those two have strong undercurrents. The love scenes were passionate and because Griff and Rosalind are falling in too deep, they exchanged harsh words and Griff did everything to make her his. I admired Rosalind's decision to move away and pursue her dream, because it made Griff realize how much he needed her, and her love. So, another case of "don't know what you have 'til it's gone". I'm looking forward to reading the next! Why only 3 stars? I loved the witty banter, plot line, the typical SJ formula which I love, the secondary characters can't wait for Helena and Daniel's story!!
What didn't I love? The two main characters. Although I liked Griff a bit more, I didn't feel a connection to either one of them. In fact at times I grew tired of Rosalind, and highly annoyed. I don't think she did anything wrong, but obviously there was just something I can put my finger on to cause me not to really like them. I think Why only 3 stars?
I think with Rosalind I don't like how aimless her life seemed to be. She wanted to be away from running the estate, to be an actress, but that really didn't last, and then she didn't want to run the estate either. For someone who proclaimed love was important and the hero kept mentioning that his Rosalind never did anything by half-measures, it sorta felt like she did. I just wanted her to make up her mind about anything already. Griff was okay, but I didn't feel the love.
And while I get the several Shakespeare quotes, I found it odd for two people to talk in quotes so often. Onward to Daniel the highwayman's son and Lady Helena! This promises to be interesting! Griff's determination to rid himself of Rosalind and her determination to stick to him results in numerous humourous situations and exchanges between the two. I really enjoyed reading this book. The story grabbed my attention early and held it until the last page. Jeffries has such a smooth writing style that the story just flows effortlessly.
As entertaining as the two main characters were, the secondary characters, especially Helena and Daniel, received enough attention to pique my interest - I'll be reading their story next. Hopefully Juliet will also appear in the next book. Although these books can be read as standalones, reading them in order gives the characters more depth. After I finish the second book in this series, I may just have to reread Juliet's story.

After his father dies, Ben leaves town and is rescued from his harsh life by Colonel Eugene Prescott. Ben becomes Jack Prescott, joins the army, and becomes a Ranger. Later, he joins the father of his heart in his successful security business. When Colonel Prescott dies, Jack sells the lucrative company and his home, and then returns to Caroline's hometown of Summerville, Washington. Jack has never forgotten Caroline, and he hopes to find her.
Arriving in Summerville, Jack learns that Caroline is suffering financial difficulties and takes boarders in her once magnificent home. Jack goes to Caroline's bookstore on Christmas Eve and arranges to rent a room from her. Caroline's life has been one of tragedy and loneliness. Her parents were killed in a car accident that gravely injured her brother. After suffering six years of agony, her brother has just died. Caroline is intensely drawn to Jack, and he gains her trust when he gets her safely home after a harrowing incident during a snow storm.
After spending the evening together, Caroline tells Jack that she doesn't want to spend the night alone. The two begin a very intense, passionate relationship. When a man from Jack's past threatens Caroline's safety, Jack must protect this woman he loves while trying to regain her wavering trust. This book was fast-paced and quick to read. I enjoyed the relationship between the hero and heroine, and I really liked both of their characters. I thought it was touching that Jack remembered and thought about Caroline while he was away, but I did find it a bit creepy that a young, homeless Jack used to go in and wonder through Caroline's house when no one was at home.
The only other disatisfaction I felt with the book was due to the extremely rushed ending. Another yes-and-no book for me. Yes, for the male lead and his cute stalker-ish ways and love for the heroine, the villain, the plot, and the nice creepy feeling of a small town in the middle of the blizzard I love such minimalistic, "silent", compact settings. As much as I complain on YA review blog about insta-love in young adult books, I feel adult romance books are even worse for this. This book has the relationship progress rather quickly but it has a solid reason for it which also ties into the plot and the character development and I thought was rather well done. I really liked the dynamic between the two characters. Also, there was all this angst! I love when the book makes me cry ugly tears, you know?
Not that you should ever hold my crying as some sort of a standard. I have been known to cry while watching commercials. But, yeah, their loneliness and need for a family really hit me. I could feel the starkness in both of their lives. I needed them to find each other to make myself feel better. I did think they jumped into bed together a little quickly. But once they were they I stopped caring. The sex was hot and desperate and just what I thought it would be with these two characters and their intense relationship.

Now, do not get me wrong, I am all for a possessive caveman alpha, but there were certain points I thought it was going to turn into an episode of Criminal Minds when he tried to make a dress out of her skin or something. However, I liked the differing POV , even from the villain of the piece, it built the tension up nicely.
I have read there is a novella about Jack and Caroline, which is pretty much what should have been the epilogue to this book. The thing is, I do actually like Lisa Marie Rice books, I just have to space them out, as it is all a bit formulaic and some phrases and sentences are repeated in each book. I was not totally satisfied with the conclusion of the story. I guess it was a happy ending of sorts, and anyway I have a great imagination and I just used that to conclude the fate of the characters.
What captured me instantly with the story was its plot. I absolutely liked the idea that the major characters, Jack Prescott and Caroline Lake, knew each other twelve years ago, way back when they were both still in their teens and circumstances of their lives were reversely different than now. They were seriously scorching! I was actually envious of Caroline while I was reading this book. Sep 26, Samantha Sullivan rated it really liked it.
