Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I've long been a fan of Benito Perez-Galdos. In fact, he's my favorite Spanish writer of the 19th Century.
It started when my Master's Reading List included "The complete works" of this profoundly talented and prolific writer, something I venture even the august body of professors specialized in Spanish literature at the institution of higher learning had never accomplished themselves. I considered the unrestricted expectation to be an outrageous imposition at the time. Luckily, I fell in love with the works, one by one, each for a different reason.
Some of his characters are unforgettable and all of his acute commentaries on society pointedly accurate. Galdos from other writers of his time presents the clearest profile of Spanish politics, history, psychological make-up, society in general, and the economy of his time.
The "Episodios Nacionales" present a different and more jovial take on the writer. When I saw the complete works available on Kindle, I jumped at the opportunity.
I continue to read each episode at leisure and cannot find enough spare time to sit down and indulge with pleasure the accounts of past historic occurrences, as depicted by Mr. I highly recommend the work to anyone interested in Galdos, Spanish literature, Spanish history, the Spanish psyche, and the society of his time, all in the purest of language and grammar.
