Or you can say they intrigue and twirl, revolving in diminishing and expanding circles, one minute tying your thoughts into knots, in the next making you laugh. Just as the book says, none of us sees anything the same. In extension, if none of us see things in the same way, how can we possibly know who we truly are? You see I cannot stop thinking about the questions posed in the book!

Chris Mattews narrates the audiobook. He does a good job. What is said is clearly spoken, and it Is not hard to follow. In the beginning he speaks a little bit fast. You cannot listen to the book for long stretches.

See a Problem?

Your head gets tied into a knot, not because of how it is read but because of its philosophical content. It is interesting, does give food for thought, but is too exaggerated and repetitive. The plot didn't captivate me much, even had hard time in finishing it. But some parts were amazing. In particular the sections on the human destruction of the nature, stark differences between the life in the cities and in countryside. And this, in a novel written in s. I wonder what he would have written if he had lived today!

Brief but seering criticism of the peoples' general expression of religious beliefs was also impressive.

I loved the beginning of the book. The narrator is looking in the mirror one day when his wife tells him that his nose tilts to the right.

Horrified that his wife had known something about him that he had never noticed, he realizes that he can't really know his own face. To observe himself he must look in the mirror, so he can never really see what he looks like in everyday life. He then notices that every person sees him slightly differently and he begins to wonder how he can have any identity I loved the beginning of the book.

He then notices that every person sees him slightly differently and he begins to wonder how he can have any identity at all. This all leads to a crisis in the man's life, and it all takes place in the first thirty pages or so. With the novel's premise set up wonderfully, the book didn't really go anywhere for me. The narrator basically seeks to explode the different identities that people had constructed for them, tearing down his family and friendships in the process.

I don't know if it's because this is not my kind of book at all, because I was forced to read this, because of the continuous repetitions in the first half of the book I get it, you are not the one your wife sees and she is not the one you see, stop repeating this stuff , or because of some other reason to me unknown, I didn't like this book. On the other hand, I must say I did enjoy the fact that the protagonist addresses the reader directly, and I do u had to read this book for school. On the other hand, I must say I did enjoy the fact that the protagonist addresses the reader directly, and I do understand and maybe even agree with some of his ideas.

All in all, from a literary point of view, it is a masterpiece and everything, I just guess it's not my type. Not terrible, but dozens of authors since Poe have done the "Diary of a Madman" shtick and most of them made it a lot more interesting. There's some absurdity at the end involving the Church and maybe there was some sort of allegory about capitalism since the main character seems to be consumed by guilt over inheriting a bank, but I didn't feel compelled to puzzle it out.

It was a teeny bit thought-provoking, but also fairly annoying. The main character was ridiculously self-absorbed so I had a hard time connecting.

The good thing is, if you don't like it you won't waste much time -- it's only about pages long. Thank you for the refund, Amazon. One person found this helpful.
