Paul - In the Arena for God (Paul - Mighty Champion for God Book 2)

Their eyes will be illumined and their hearts enlightened to comprehend God's strategy and apprehend the model of Heaven designed for the "latter days. However, His words and insight have been sealed from that day until this. The book is now open! The capstone generation is being prepared to be released with shouts of "grace-grace! In many ways the scales have been unbalanced towards wickedness and human agendas. The governmental anointing now emerging will uproot many of those attributes!

In its stead, the Kingdom of Heaven will be planted and established. Not only will it uproot and destroy things sponsored by realms of darkness, but also build and plant from the Kingdom of light. Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Our call is to sow spiritually in uprightness; that is from a posture of right standing with God. In so doing, we will reap according to mercy and lovingkindness. We are entering a season of harvest. It will be a harvest of "harvesters. We are to break up uncultivated ground. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Like Elijah, a holy jealousy for God will overshadow God's army. They will not be afraid to challenge the "prophets of Baal" who are deceiving many. This will result in a wonderful harvest of gifted people who will be very fruitful in the Kingdom. They already have a zeal for spiritual things, it is only misguided. Once they discover the truth, all their devotion and enthusiasm will be for Jesus.

Much prayer and sacrifice has already been invested in this day. Many seeds of revival and spiritual outpouring have been sown. We will now become the beneficiaries of a great spiritual inheritance, eating from vineyards that we did not plant. Even so, those who sow and those who reap will rejoice together. A great company of spiritual champions who have blazed a spiritual trail surrounds us! They have sown into this day as righteous testifier's waiting for us to become heirs of our prophetic destiny.

In that, we will share the Lord's victory. It is now a time to seek the Lord and inquire favor of Him until He rains righteousness upon us. Then the full measure of His salvation will be our inheritance Hosea We must be very careful about the object of our focus; the Kingdom of Heaven or the spirit of this world? Have we devoted our attention to the desire of God or the pursuit of our own ambition? These are the pressing questions that must be truthfully confronted! We cannot afford distractions from the adversary; distractions can lead to destruction.

The highway in this season that will see considerable spiritual activity is "Highway Many layers of understanding will be derived through teachers inspired by revelatory insight involving this important passage. A spiritual and natural harvest is at hand. The church is being poised to bring in a "harvest of harvesters. We have now entered a season of spiritual harvest. Seeds sown in prior generations have come to a place of maturity. Commissions, mantles, and spiritual gifts can be apprehended that were previously worn by pioneers and leaders of the past. The Lord, in this harvest age, will remember the prayers and sacrifices of prior generations.

We discuss this principle much more extensively in our book entitled Books of Destiny. The purest form of harvest is through a demonstration of the Spirit and His power. In the visions, this release of power was illustrated through a tool called a "power-saw. Modern tools, such as the power-saw, have made this difficult work much easier. Lumber and boards can now be processed quickly and efficiently with this mechanism. However, in the hands of careless and inexperienced laborers it can also become very dangerous. The Holy Spirit is using this analogy to paint a prophetic portrait that can be readily understood.

Workmen operating a power-saw carelessly or presumptuously can sometimes lose their fingers and hands. Prophetically, the hand is representative of the fivefold ministry. The early apostolic church modeled God's design for unfolding the revelation of His Kingdom. What had previously seemed an impossible task, is made attainable by the Lord's power imparted through His resurrection. The Bible records that, "With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. If used wrongly, the power of God can cut off our ministry.

The hand of the carpenter only holds the saw in place. History has clearly proven: This once again points to the need for great integrity and personal character resident in us. God will not share His glory with anyone. Our ministries must be galvanized with charity and cloaked in humility. The "power-saw" or power of God, will be utilized to tear down and to build. This is a dual commissioning Jeremiah In the hands of an experienced builder, the "power-saw" functions efficiently and beautifully. Gifted carpenters have great respect for the tools of their trade. Their livelihood depends upon it.

Likewise, we are wholly dependant upon the Holy Spirit and should exercise extreme care in handling His gifts. This is both an admonition and a warning. The Lord is letting us know that greater power is available and much needed. However it comes with a condition - proper stewardship. Presumption and distractions will results in grave danger. The Blessings of Jacob At 5: Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

We have entered a "fullness of time" juncture of church history. There will no longer be delay for many of the purposes destined for this hour. To stand in the way of these mandates could be extremely hazardous. When the day arrived for Israel's liberation from Egyptian bondage, the enemy could not prohibit the decree of God. Decrees from heaven are issued through angelic "watchers" that carry authority from God. Not even the Red Sea was able to stand before the achievement of that decree. Pharaoh's army was annihilated under the weight of this command.

So is it today! We are living in a day of restoration. The fortunes of God's inheritance are being replenished. Great will be the rejoicing of those ascending Mount Zion to experience the awesome spiritual blessings ordained for this day. The Favor of El Shaddai In Bob's experience, he was informed that the "blessing of Jacob" is being released in a pronounced way.

This was a very unique and supernatural experience that launched Jacob into his divine destiny. There is a profoundly significant attribute of God identified in this impartation of favor and grace. May He also give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may possess the land of your sojournings, which God gave to Abraham. He is the express image of God and the exact representation of His nature. However, there presently seems to be special emphasis on His eternal quality as El Shaddai.

This descriptive expression depicts the Father as our "all sufficient One" providing all that we need. It oftentimes depicts Him as the "many breasted One" symbolized by a nursing mother providing all that an infant needs for growth, maturity, and protection. In like manner, as we draw near to Him and rely upon His sufficiency, we will actually be drawing the very tissue of God into ourselves transforming us into an overcoming army who embody His qualities and attributes.

In each case, there was the impartation of this specific divine attribute essential for the patriarchs to become fruitful, multiply, and occupy the land of their sojourning. The Lord released this divine blessing upon Isaac. The result was so profound that the enemies of Isaac desired to enter into a covenant of peace with him because of the obvious favor of God.

In Genesis 26 we observe Isaac re-digging the old wells of Abraham.

Sentry (Robert Reynolds)

On the day that Abimelech chose to approach Isaac with a proposition of peace, a well was discovered that remains to this day. The well is called "The Well of the Oath" or Beersheba. In December , Wanda and I, along with a few close friends, had the privilege of spending an afternoon of prayer and proclamation at this well.

It was a profound time to stand upon the very spot where so many significant biblical and historical events have taken place. We had an incredible encounter with the Lord while there. It was the very place where Jacob received the blessing that opened the heavens and introduced a visitation from the Lord. The Visitation of Jacob Immediately following the release of this blessing upon Jacob, a subsequent open heaven experience was granted to the patriarch.

The experience unveiled to him his divine destiny and that of his people. Upon departing Beersheba he traveled toward Haran. Desiring to rest, he placed a stone under his head and encountered the Lord in a penetrating revelation of Kingdom purpose. Presently, there are many who have been prepared by the Holy Spirit to encounter the Lord in such a way that Heavenly objectives are being revealed and imparted.

Out of that we become fruitful and multiply and begin to occupy the land of our sojourning. Jacob watched as angels ascended and descended a "ladder" linking heaven with earth and listened as a Heavenly promise was given. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. Likewise, as the Holy Spirit continually unfolds to us this aspect of the Divine attributes, we will begin to see open heaven revelations of our spiritual destiny and promise to become expressions of His Kingdom.

Seeing His plans for us will cause us to begin to occupy, on His behalf, the land of our sojourning. This blessing opened a gate of Heaven. Many storms and cataclysmic events have been occurring in recent days. We believe this is highlighting a place in which the Lord desires to open spiritual gates and everlasting doors Psalm Although we appreciate the understanding given to us by many authors concerning the definition of El Shaddai as the "all sufficient One" or the "many breasted One," we must also consider what many Jewish writers have suggested concerning this divine attribute.

They find the name to be much more far-reaching than our present understanding discloses. As one Jewish scholar put it, "It the blessing of EL Shaddai belonged to the sphere of salvation, forming one element in the manifestation of Jehovah, and describing Jehovah, the covenant God, as possessing the power to realize His promises, even when the order of nature presented no prospect of their fulfilment, and the powers of nature were insufficient to secure it.

The name which Jehovah thus gave to Himself was to be a pledge This endowment of Heaven empowers us to escape the corruption of this world and its lusts 2 Peter 1: When this work is complete, we can then be entrusted with the power and authority of His kingdom to make it known in the earth and become the awesome army prophesied in scripture. However, the fulfillment of this prophetic mandate seems distant and impossible from the perspective of our strength and ability. Like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the realization of our promise requires divine intervention to become reality - the intervention of El Shaddai.

The manifestation of God as El Shaddai overcame the deficiency and weakness of Abraham to do what he by nature could not. So is it with us. He is able to do through us what we are incapable of producing on our own. As we yield ourselves to Him for the extraction of the seeds of corruption from our soul, we then begin the journey to become partakers of His nature and escape this world's impurity. We must move beyond the elementary principles and become the mature sons and daughters who bear His image and express His power.

By virtue of His impartation to us as El Shaddai, as was given to Jacob, we will begin to bear fruit that is recognizable and provide light and life. There has been a divine discomfort that has been imparted to the body of Christ. In times past many have been content to sit in the pews of our churches and allow leadership and ministry teams do the work of ministry.

This year we will see a tremendous hunger imparted to the body to be prepared to fulfill Ephesians 4: This aspect of our development must take place to accommodate the great harvest in the years to come. Those who will come with humble and sincere hearts will see notable spiritual fruit being developed within their nature and character. This will be necessary so that we can be entrusted with the power and gifts essential to do this all-important work.

The revelation and impartation of the blessing of Jacob will equip us to begin to occupy the land and become fruit-bearers with kingdom attributes. As we rest in this aspect of His divine name, we also draw virtue from Him as our High Tower and infinite source of strength.

In that place there are multitudes of angels along with the Church of the Firstborn who are registered as citizens of Heaven. In this place we discover God in his Justice and the spirits of the righteous and redeemed made perfect Hebrews These revelations will deliver many from their "comfort zones," but it will also release great spiritual inheritance ordained for the latter days.

Leaving the Comfort Zone Dealing with our spiritual "comfort zone" will be a primary emphasis of the Holy Spirit in the coming season. This principle will be applicable both individually and corporately. The Lord intends to develop maturity in a body of people to whom He can delegate substantial spiritual authority and power.

For this to be accomplished, we must eliminate the parameters we have built around ourselves. During these days we will be challenged out of our "comfort zone" and into the place of supernatural faith. In this arena we will discover the "faith of the Son of God. Many are in a post that may presently be fruitful; but a greater place of fruitfulness and authority can be achieved that requires the supernatural realm. God's cloud is moving. His plan is unfolding. Our ultimate objective is to develop Kingdom credentials to faithfully steward what is to come.

Likewise, churches and fellowships may also find themselves extending their tent pegs and broadening their mandates for spiritual challenges from God. The Holy Spirit will identify the places in which He is genuinely Lord as opposed to man-made leadership following human agendas. Another word for comfort zone is "lukewarm. Because you say, 'I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,' and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

That is the dilemma the Bible predicts for the latter days. However, we must see things from His perspective. In the coming season, the Lord will send teams of people who are genuinely on fire for God to places that are living in a lukewarm atmosphere. The zeal and affection for heaven these possess, will become infectious and expose places that are under the "lukewarm," Laodicean spirit.

Their burning passion for God will melt cold, formal, religious mindsets. The ones being challenged to leave their "comfort zone" are the very ones being identified for substantial spiritual impartation. Spiritual bravery and individual courage must characterize the emerging army of God. Israel was directed to leave God's Shepherding provision and care that they enjoyed following deliverance from Egypt. In order to possess the promise, they had to cross the Jordan as a militant army and contend for their inheritance.

Be strong and courageous! This will be true even if the message is seemingly hard and different from present understanding of doctrinal issues. There is fresh revelation coming from the heart of God. Man-made traditions will be eradicated through this emerging army.

Political correctness will have no place in the churches anointed with the mandate of Heaven. Only spiritual correctness will be the governing standard. The church will be challenged to take a stand to address socially difficult issues. Homosexual marriages, flagrant abortion, and other such issues must be confronted.

The church cannot remain silent. We must become the salt and light of this world by setting a lofty standard. Outcry for Righteousness For those willing to leave their spiritual comfort zone, a divine impartation will transpire. A holy desperation for the righteousness of God will be birthed in them.

It will result in a divine disdain for the spirit of this world and the corrupt standard it flaunts. Many Christians will find themselves offended at wickedness. Even those things seemingly tolerable in the past will no longer seem acceptable. We will come to hate those things that He hates and love those things that He loves. That will be part of the Bridal paradigm. In a spiritual vision given to Bob, he was shown scales of justice made from that brass that descended in front of him.

On one side was "wickedness" and the other "righteousness. The Justice of God is approaching. With it will come blessings and judgments reflecting both the kindness and severity of God! From the appearance of the scales, it was clearly evident that wickedness had exceedingly prevailed; corrupt standards were being exalted and righteousness was being mocked.

However, a bestowal from God is being released to balance the scales. The righteousness of God manifested through His people will begin to balance the scales with the justice of God.

Ultimate Guide to Dune (Part 3) Book Two

It is a time for righteousness to be heard in lieu of wickedness. The Lord is also promising that the righteous will be abundantly fruitful even in their old age. According to the Psalmist, "The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. These are the dual qualities of divine justice. But God was still on the throne and he was allowing this to happen to show that He was still on the throne. I want to remind you of Elijah competing with the prophets of Baal on Mt. For this I turn to 1 Kings Do it the second time, and they did it the second time.

And he said, Do it the third time, and they did it the third time. And the water ran down round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. How could such a sacrifice burn? God knew what He was doing and Elijah trusted His working. God also knew the events that surrounded that trip toRomeand Paul trusted His working as well. It may have been adverse at the time but it was all in the hands of God. Things went from bad to worse as he languished for years in the royal prison. Joseph speaks to his guilt-ridden brothers.

How many times have you seen what seemed to be calamity turn out for good? How do we know what is good for us. The carnal Christian complains and blames God for being unfaithful. Need we be reminded of two verses in Romans 8? We will not experience the truth of that verse until there is adversity. God sees eternity in our daily lives and works out His eternal purpose in our behalf.

For example one misses the flight at the airport and questions the Lord in it. The plane crashes; killing all aboard and he then praises the Lord for sparing his life. On the same plane another Christian is killed being immediately translated into the presence of the Lord. It worked out for good for both for, as true believers our goal is to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. The apostle Paul was spared in Lystra for so we see in Acts Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up.

It was contrary to human reasoning that Jesus would die the death of the cursed. Men question why a sinless perfect man would have to die such a horrible death and experience all the degradations man could manifest. It should be the guilty bearing that death. But then, there could be no salvation; no eternal life. Were we to pay for our sin we would all end up in the lake of fire. There would be no one saved for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. Referring to the cross in Romans Sure, the winds were contrary, adverse. It would cause the natural man to complain. The proverbial winds of adversity blew as Paul and Silas were literally thrown into the Philippian dungeon but were there complaints?

Unbeknown to the apostle, God was working all things for good for He had the keeper of the prison and his family ready to receive the gospel. But this man had a rotten attitude. Sure enough, a young man came right up to him and he knew this was the man the Lord had brought to him. His bad attitude took over. He gave him the gospel and told him to get down on his knees right in front of scores of passers-by. He did it and poured out his heart verbally for all to hear.

The pastor was at first embarrassed but it quickly turned to shame. He had let his attitude get in the way of his testimony. Yes, the wind was contrary, but it was God Who was upholding all things by the word of His power. The apostle had gone through these adversities on many occasions and had experienced the sovereignty of God in his life. So when he came to the end in Romewe read this in his last letter to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4: That should be our experience when the winds of adversity blow.

The Lord will stand with us and strengthen us for He does make all things work together for good to those who love Him and who are the called according to His purpose. What is an act of God? The term is frequently used in insurance policies. Are they really acts of God? Today we are looking once again at Acts Need we guess as to who is the Adversary? Peter answers that question in 1 Peter 5: We have also seen that the apostle Paul had the blessing of Jesus Christ in going to Rome. But whenever God is doing a work Satan serves as an adversary seeking to disrupt the divine plan.

I draw your attention to 1 Corinthians If Satan is the adversary, who are the adversaries? Paul answers that question in 2 Corinthians And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness. We have an example of this in Acts 9. The sea had always been a threat to him as we see in 2 Corinthians Now he is going through another storm at sea. Not in this case for he knew that God was with him. What was the adversity? It was the wind. The devil is a spirit creature.

He is also called in 2 Corinthians 4: In fact in Psalm We see a classic example of this in Luke 8: The Lord, along with his disciples, was on the Sea of Galileeseeking to cross to the other side.

He was asleep and while sleeping a storm came up. It was one of the many attempts of the prince of the power of the air to destroy Jesus Christ and keep the world subject to him. We see the climax in verse Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: So the raging of the storm was not an act of God but rather an activity of the adversary, the devil. The storms do exist but only as God permits them. He can stop them and He will if it fits into His long-term plan. We will look at another example of an evil wind in action.

So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. It definitely was not an act of God although God permitted it. CycloneTracywas not an act of God but God allowed it to happen. The hurricane Katrina was not an act of God but he allowed it. The Tsunami inIndonesiawas not an act of God but He allowed it to take place. Ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the adversary, the devil, has contributed to the destruction of the human race. Can you not see the logic of this for man was created in the image of God? So he will do all he can using his arsenal of weaponry to destroy the work of the God.

This would be especially true were one the apostle of the Gentiles. For that reason Paul could envisage what he said in Acts Wind can be very advantageous. How we enjoy that ocean breeze on a hot summer day! A twenty-knot tail wind is much appreciated in a yacht race. The farmer is thankful for the soft wind to turn the fans of his windmill. The young boy relishes the breeze so that he can fly his kite. All of this is wind under control. If the typhoon is not an act of God, why does He allow it? We have already stated that it is the by-product of sin. The fact that God allows satanic activity also shows that God is in control or as stated in Colossians 1: Jesus Christ holds all things together.

Why did God allow Pharaoh to get away with so much prior to the exodus? The answer is in Exodus 9: Paul had a thorn in the flesh which he called in 2 Corinthians In fact He permitted it to continue throughout his life and for what reason? It was to show His grace as all-sufficient. On that voyage to Rome, the wind was contrary. Satan the adversary was driving them off course.

God was allowing it and the apostle never questioned it. Even in times of deep distress Jesus Christ was there all the time. The winds of adversity may blow in your life and you, too, may despair even of life itself but if you are in Christ there is assured hope from 1 John 4: The Christ that is in you is greater than the devil that is in the world.

Do you believe what God has said in His Word? Then why do so many righteous people suffer? Why did the apostle Paul suffer? Why did the Lord Jesus Christ suffer? Today we are looking at Acts The apostle is on his way toRomeand it was proving to be a slow tedious trip. And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein. And we sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone; and hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called the fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

This was proving to be slow going and for the impatient one it would be difficult ult. But Paul had just spent over two years doing nothing inCaesarea. Were his steps ordered by the Lord? He was justified as a believer; declared righteous by the grace and in the sight of God. His steps were ordered, that is prepared by the Lord. He had prayed much for this trip toRome. God had indeed promised him that he would be inRomehaving the ability to witness the grace of Christ there. We must remember that Paul was a student of Old Testament Scriptures. He could cite numerous examples of how the Lord ordered the steps of His people.

The children ofIsraelspent years inEgypt, most of that time as slaves. They were His people; His chosen race. And yet this time was needed to develop as a nation numerically, physically and emotionally. From Biblical history he knew something of the workings of God. He knew of Daniel and the three Hebrews who were isolated inBabylon. He knew of Mordecai and Esther away from their homeland in Shushan the palace. He knew of Jeremiah being thrown into the pit and Joseph, the patriarch sold into slavery.

He learned not to question God. Now the apostle was on board ship limping towards Rome. He was in familiar territory. He had gone over this region during his three apostolic journeys. He could look towards land and envisage his preaching in those cities such asLyciaand Pamphylia. Now as he had time on his hands he would thank God for the memories. As we grow older we have more memories. For Paul he would think of those believers in Pamphylia and the like. Now he was constrained to pray for them. His spiritual ministry goes on even in isolation.

This indeed would be of great comfort to him. As he no doubt was drawing nearer to the close of his life he remembered many others looking for that blessed hope as well. The comfort intensifies as he anticipates a great reunion in heavenly places. Then he would comprehend more of the big picture, for God was already in Rome ordering his steps when he would arrive. God was inGalatia, that land off to the north, caring for the believers, those near and dear to Paul.

He certainly could no longer minister unto them as the apostle of the Gentiles but he could intercede for them and God could do that ministering spiritually. Just as Paul had travelled those three journeys he touched countless thousands of lives. Now he was able to touch hundreds more such as those men on board that ship. We can look ahead to chapter 28 and see how this all worked out. God knows those people whose lives you will be touching one way or another. In some cases it will require hospitalisation to witness to that nurse or doctor.

It could be, as with Paul inPhilippi, an imprisonment to reach those behind bars or the warders. He would not have been inCaesareahad the Roman Captain Lysius not sent him there. It all required a preparation. Who among us has the ability to order our own steps? They would indeed be carnal, fleshly. We cannot see what the next hour holds for things can change in the twinkling of an eye. But God does know. His omniscience incorporates eternity future as well as eternity past.

He has an eternal purpose which involves you and me. I like to think that God knows what tomorrow holds for He is already there. He knows how He wants us to fit into His big picture. This is what we see in James 4: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or that. How foolish it is for us to go about making our own plans, doing our own thing and expecting God to fit into our schedule.

How do you think Paul would have planned that trip toRome? How do you suppose he could have controlled that wind, the weather or the current of the sea? For this reason many Christians end up with wasted lives. How often do we complain when health fails? We understand His purpose of grace for this dispensation.

We prayerfully press toward that mark. We commit all things to Him as a living sacrifice. Do you claim to be a Christian? I conclude by reading Ephesians 4: Could it be that a Spirit led believer has more insight into real life than the best-trained mind of this world? One of these demonstrations is in our text for today, Acts In our text the apostle had opportunity to admonish all concerned but no one would listen.

They might have considered him a mere pessimist. After all, he was but a prisoner and usually prisoners have a hidden agenda — like escape. What they might not have realized was that Paul had a greater desire to go toRomethan any of them. This admonition or warning was that based on insight and thus would carry with it a certain authority. But what authority does a prisoner have? We could naively say that God gave him the insight but there is more to it than that. We could rightly say that the apostle was one of the more seasoned travellers of the empire.

He had already completed three apostolic journeys, much of which was done by sea. We can understand this from 2 Corinthians He well knew what it was to have disaster strike at sea. But he did not get his authority solely from experience. To rely only upon that would be to rely upon ones own self.

Everyone has human experiences but only the believer has spiritual, God-given experiences. The apostle Paul had been raised in Tarsus, a city of Cilicia but trained in Jerusalem. He knew the seasons, the weather patterns and was able to discern the dangers that lay ahead. But he was also a man of prayer having the Spirit of God dwelling in his spirit and soul.

He had a Godly communication the world would call nonsense. We must remember that God made the earth and all that is in it. My father was a farmer before the time of weather forecasting. He knew well those weather patterns and planted his crops, cut his hay and planned his harvesting accordingly. By the way, he, too, was a Christian.

Search Grace & Truth

I pick up another bit of information in Acts This time was already past which meant that winter was approaching, a change of seasons. What happens with a change of seasons? There will be erratic weather with unpredictable wind and who could tell from which direction. The spring and autumn seasons often generate cyclones, tornados, hurricanes and the like.

So add spiritual insight to the common sense factor and right decisions should result. In looking at the context of Acts 27, verses the warnings were already present. They had sailed slowly many days, and scarce come over againstCnidus. So when Paul gave his warning it was not an unbelievable thing. We would think that they should have heeded his admonition. We warn them of the wrath to come and it seems the natural thing for unbelievers to believe the vicarious death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Death is all about us in every form manifesting the wages of sin. That should be simply believable. The only way for man to save himself from eternal damnation is to die for his sin. He sent His only begotten Son into the world, taking upon Himself our sinful flesh and died in our behalf.

The warning goes out to the lost with the only possible solution. It has to be simple for every man, woman, and yes, even child, to understand. It has to be simple for every strata of intellect to comprehend it. The way of salvation must be easy to make it possible for those of every culture and race to accept. Paul had been a believer and an apostle for nearly 30 years and his experience in Christ gave him unbounded confidence. I have been saved for over 60 years and have over 45 years in the ministry of grace. The sailors on that ship to Rome no doubt felt that to sail at that time of the year would be risky.

But it seems to be human nature to gamble. They would take their chances. How many expect to go to hell? God will let me in. He has the authority of Jesus Christ. He knows what he is talking about. His warning is not mere common sense; it is spiritual wisdom because it is from the Lord. The world is not able to see beyond the grave and so there is nothing for which to prepare except the funeral.

But we know of the life beyond whether it is the glories of heaven or the sufferings in the lake of fire. Because of that insight we are able to make decisions looking at the big picture rather than living but for the day. So where will you spend eternity? There are but two alternatives. By his very nature man is lost and hell-bound, condemned and facing eternal suffering. But God, by His grace, has worked out His eternal purpose, salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

My admonition to you is to put your faith and trust in Him and experience His life. The natural man, otherwise known as an unbeliever, is more prone to believe a lie than the truth. In 2 Thessalonians 2: Normally that which we take for the truth is our choice. We have been educated by the world so truth lies in the world system. The god of this world, Satan, governs that system.

If a lie is told often enough it will be believed, especially if the initiator of that lie is charismatic in his communication skills. Satan is and his followers follow his example. One will believe what his mind tells him to believe. If one is spiritually minded he will believe the things of the Lord. But if he is carnally or fleshly minded; he will believe the things of this world.

These are a few words that have been used to describe the Apostle Paul. being offensive to some, but he did not waver one inch from speaking God's Truth . popped out of the Book of Acts – Saul of Tarsus, later to be known as Paul, Like the coach of a great champion, he feared that, when he himself was in the arena.

So we see in Galatians 5: One would think if there was doubt as to the success of that trip by boat they would at least consider the warnings from the apostle. The cargo was just a minor part of the responsibility. There were human beings on board. Were a pilot of a with passengers on board told of a malfunction in the mechanics of the airplane, he would not take off. But in this case the owner and the master of the ship were the supreme authority.

To the world life is cheap. We can illustrate that by looking at the happenings inIraq,Kenya,Zimbabwe, and innumerable other places. It all started when Cain killed Abel. Life was especially cheap on that boat for most of those passengers were prisoners heading forRometo serve as gladiators, entertainment for the Roman citizenry. I can see why Paul worded his admonition the way he did. Were they not concerned for themselves? He believed the captain of the vessel rather than Paul. It is to have faith.

All are religious even though they may deny it. They may not believe in God but there are gods many and lords many. How many who claim not to be religious study and follow the leading of the horoscope? They worship their star. How many, who deny being religious, put their faith in money, worrying about it, striving to obtain it? How many, who rebel against religion, heed the advice of those around them?

Just because one claims to be a believer does not make him immune from these temptations. Let us consider 1 Corinthians 6: It is natural to be intimidated by the world. The teacher in school belittles Christianity citing evolution as truth. By your silence do you condone it and, in so doing, witness it to also be true? Do you admonish him or, by your silence, identify yourself with his sin? By your silence, do you show him that you agree? Would you testify of Jesus Christ knowing you are the only believer present? The apostle Paul did it time and again, oftentimes facing severe opposition.

He sincerely believed what he wrote in Romans 8: Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear. As it turned out, the owner of the ship, who insisted on making the trip, suffered the most loss. The ship with all its cargo was a total loss according to verse Through it all, no lives were lost however.

This is a perfect illustration of a disobedient human race even though good intentions reign. Does man ever learn? Not without the preaching of the Word of the Lord. He will not learn until the Holy Spirit is allowed to convict him of his wayward ways. He who believes a lie lives in a sphere of lies. By being born into the human race he is by nature the son of his father the devil.

He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. Now I think we have proven the point. The natural man is more prone to believe a lie than the truth and is more easily convinced of a falsehood than when the word of truth is proclaimed. I am now going to the next verse, John 8: While in Fair Havens, Paul warned all of the dangers of sailing. A shipwreck was on the horizon, literally.

His influence persuaded the organizers to go ahead with the plans and sail. Satan had tried innumerable times to eliminate the apostle from the land of the living but up until now, had failed. Here was yet another attempt and as always God overruled. While on planet earth, the evangelist warns the wicked of the consequence of sin. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God. He is the god of this world and wants to retain power of his subjects, the unsaved. In working through his followers they are convinced of his lie and reject the truth of the gospel.

That truth of the gospel is that Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose again for you. Believe on Him, His completed work of redemption on the cross and by grace you are saved, not of works lest any man should boast. Have you embraced that truth? Whose advice would you follow? How often do we get ourselves into a situation because we followed the wrong advice? All of us can look back and kick ourselves for not doing what we were told.

Or on the other hand we can do the same because we did obey the wrong person. We find the same thing in secular history. But today we are looking at some examples in Biblical history, which to me are more profound. In 1 Kings His son Rehoboam did no better. Their advice is seen in 1 Kings The result was complete disaster. The kingdom was divided as ten tribes of the twelve departed from Rehoboam, following rather Jeroboam forming the northern kingdom ofIsrael.

I wonder if he ever had any remorse? The Biblical record does not say so. Rather he sought to make war against them. He did not seek out a prophet to enquire of God. He did not go to the high priest seeking divine guidance. Rather he acted much like people do today; looking to other people for direction. Can you imagine the kind of ministry Paul would have had had he sought advice from others.

He certainly would not have gone to Jerusalemfor no one thought he should do so. He would not have preached the gospel of the grace of God for no one knew it. That is seen in Ephesians 3: The gospel Paul preached, according to Galatians 1: For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Sentry then bids Dr Worth farewell, telling him that he's going to seek out help to answer his existential questions. The Sentry then flies off and meets up with Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange uses his magic to peer into Sentry's memories and his life force. Doctor Strange finds that Sentry's life force is incomplete. While Strange and Sentry dialogue, a third voice can be heard speaking — though only the Sentry can hear it.

The third voice tells Sentry that he is not real, and that he does not exist. Doctor Strange, oblivious to the third voice, peers deeper into the Sentry's memories, and reveals that even the Sentry's own understanding of his origins are flawed. Doctor Strange finally uncovers a deep memory of a secret fortress-like building, that Sentry recognizes as the Professor's base of operations.

Doctor Strange, suddenly overcome by panic and fear, shuts down the magic mind probe and begs the Sentry not to pursue this any further. The Sentry determines to seek out the base revealed in Doctor Strange's magic mind probe. Before Sentry embarks on his journey, he returns to Dr. Cornelius Worth's home, posting Watchdog to guard the doctor's family and Lindy Lee, who is present at the home as well. Sentry wonders if he is truly Lindy Lee's husband, as he may not be the true Robert Reynolds. Worth begs Sentry to heal his sick daughter, who is in a catatonic state.

Sentry declines his request, citing that if he showed preference for Dr. Worth's daughter, he would ethically have to do this for everyone. Sentry sets off to find the base and, after a short moment, Dr. Worth's daughter comes out of her catatonic state and speaks to her father — shocking the doctor, who realizes that Sentry had healed her anyhow. The Sentry finds the base in his memories, but it is destroyed.

As he enters, the third voice in his mind grows louder and louder, telling him that none of this is real, that he is a murderer, and that he is not a hero. As he enters the base, the Sentry suddenly finds himself sitting in locked, padded room, frothing at the mouth, and in a straitjacket. Suddenly, a man's voice through a loud speaker tells him that he is a mental patient who has undergone shock therapy and has awakened from a deep slumber, and that his name is John Victor Williams. Sentry is told that his memories are false, and that he is, in fact, a crazed patient who brutally killed his next door neighbor, Melinda Jensen — whom the Sentry at first recognized as his wife Lindy Lee.

After a time, the Sentry seemingly accepts this new version of reality, believing himself to possibly be John Victor Williams, and a prisoner in a psychiatric care facility. The Professor is at the facility, treating him as his doctor. Sentry, now appearing in the body and form of Robert Reynolds, manifests aspects of his old memories, which the Professor dismisses as part of his delusions.

Eventually, Sentry realizes that this version of reality is entirely a false mental construct, and that in reality he is strapped to a table, locked in a machine that is keeping him sedated and implanting these false memories. Sentry breaks out of the machine, and sees that he is deep inside the base he had sought out — which turned out to be a secret S.

Nick Fury is present, as is the Professor and Doctor Strange, who was revealed to be the author of the false mental constructs. Doctor Strange tries to explains that he was doing this for Sentry's own good, but Sentry refuses to hear it. He grabs the Professor, begging for an explanation. The Professor reveals that he has a thermo-nuclear device implanted inside him that will detonate if he reveals the true secret of Sentry's origin.

When the Professor decides to tell him, Nick Fury activates the bomb, forcing Sentry to fly the Professor up into the stratosphere. Before the Professor detonates, he tells Sentry to seek out the Void in Antarctica, advising that the Void knows the truth. The Professor dies in the explosion, and the Sentry heads back to Earth, heading for Antarctica. In a final battle at the Void's base in Antarctica which he calls the 'Hidey-hole' This was considered dangerous by the government because the Sentry's blood could be used to create more of the serum, enough for the entire world.

Several failed attempts were made to kill him. Enraged by this revelation, the Sentry throws the Void into the Sun, telling his enemy that he no longer needs him to balance his own actions of good. The Void promises to return. Next, Yelena Belova attacks the Avengers and absorbs the Sentry's powers.

After Belova defeats each of the Avengers, she is defeated by the manifestation of the Void, which envelops and incapacitates her. The Sentry tells Belova that absorbing his powers has exposed her to the Void, but if she answers his questions, he can send the Void away. Unable to find any physical weaknesses or outrun the Sentry, Iron Man attacks the Sentry's mind; he remotely hacks CLOC and has Sentry barraged with unfiltered warnings about multiple devastating disasters occurring simultaneously throughout the world.

Unable to prioritize which alarm to deal with first, Sentry collapses to the ground in tears, utterly incapacitated. He has been seen in a promotional poster labeled "Civil War: The Final Battle," again on Iron Man's side. He accompanies a S. He then knocks Wolverine unconscious and hands him over to S. Trying to escape from the battle, believing that every path he can choose will ultimately lead to the death of people he knows one of his thoughts at this point consists of himself and Hulk triumphantly returning to Earth and 'ending' the war via killing all the heroes Sentry retreats to the moon, where he is confronted by the Inhumans living there.

Believed a threat, he is ordered to follow them to Black Bolt 's presence. Then, after a discussion of the Civil War events with the still unaware Inhumans, he rekindles his friendship with them and almost resumes his past relationship with Crystal. He is then confronted by Iron Man himself, who finally convinces a still reluctant Sentry to join him. It is stated that the Sentry publicly announces his support of the Registration Act three days after the climactic battle of the Civil War limited series.

The Sentry is recruited by Tony Stark to be part of the Mighty Avengers , the newest incarnation of the Avengers team. While at first there is some dispute between the Sentry and his wife, Robert joins the team while Tony Stark and Ms. Marvel offer him assistance to battle his mental issues. In the battle against the female Ultron , the two prove to be evenly matched. Neither is able to win until Ultron uses a virus to down Stark's Helicarrier. Ultron then initiates "Plan B" and kills Lindy, the Sentry's wife.

An enraged Sentry attacks Ultron once more. In an exchange of blows, Sentry is knocked away as Ares and Ant-Man proceed to infect Ultron with a virus intended to destroy it. Soon after, Sentry once again attacks Ultron, almost compromising the Avengers plan, nearly destroying Ultron by tearing its head off. Before he can finish, he is knocked away by Ms. After Ultron's defeat he returns to the Watchtower to find his wife Lindy alive and well—having apparently revived her himself.

Stark is later shocked when a terrified Lindy secretly requests that he find a way to either depower or kill her husband. The Sentry then aids the team when they attack Latveria but ends up stuck in the past with Doctor Doom and Tony. He is amazed to see his former self and the Void. He angrily attacks Doctor Doom until Tony explains what has happened. The Sentry finds them and Stark sends Rob into the Baxter Building so that they can use Mister Fantastic's time machine; since all memory of his past actions were erased by his 'spell', he can do anything in the past and be sure that it won't impact the present.

The Sentry gets to it, first having to deal with the Thing , whom he easily defeats. After he returns to present time along with Iron Man, he finds the rest of the Avengers engaged in battle with Doctor Doom. The Sentry quickly subdues Doom, who is then taken into S. Later in a confrontation between the Hulk and the Fantastic Four , Invisible Woman tries to call the real Sentry for help, but he does not answer the call and is sitting in his apartment watching television. The President of the United States tries to convince the Sentry to fight against his longtime friend the Hulk.

The President stumbles over the pre-fed words of persuasion and tries to improvise a plea for help. The Sentry admits to his fear of his tremendous power mixed with his agoraphobia , stating,. You'll have to handle this one yourselves. Against an opponent this powerful The amount of energy I'd have to expend After watching the events on TV and witnessing the Hulk apparently deciding, in Roman-style, to force Mister Fantastic to kill Iron Man, he leaves his home stating that, "It's time to play god".

The Sentry engages the Hulk who is now strong enough to destroy the Earth in his stampede, and unleashes his power. During the prolonged fight they both expend massive amounts of energy, nearly destroying Manhattan and disintegrating entire buildings. Sentry begins to lose control and Banner is forced to stop him before the energy Sentry releases consumes the city. After Banner delivers the final punch, the broken-faced Robert Reynolds thanks him before immediately collapsing before his feet, both reverting to human form.

When a Skrull spacecraft is discovered approaching Earth's atmosphere, the Mighty Avengers and New Avengers simultaneously head to its predicted crash area in the Savage Land. Inside are numerous superheroes dressed in their old costumes. As the Sentry fights one who looks like the Vision, it transforms into the Void, blaming the entire situation on the Sentry's hidden desires. Panicking, the Sentry flees. Before he can attack however, the Void appears and defends Lindy and tells her that the Sentry can't handle the situation and that "Whatever he can't do, I can.

Sentry joins the Dark Avengers , Norman Osborn 's personal team of Avengers, stating that Osborn is helping him in return after Osborn confides his own mental deficiency in Bob. The Sentry obliges but is seen with black eyes, indicating the return of the Void within the Sentry persona.
