Here's what early readers adults have to say: A smart, authentic, and engaging look at the Chinese experience in America through the eyes of an adventurous and loyal boy who journeys into the sometimes welcoming, often hostile environment that was nineteenth-century America. Through the eyes of the ever curious "Leon" Woo Ka-Leong , America is a play of both dazzling light and layered shadows. A riveting and revealing story for the ages. As I read this story, I was continually amazed about what those boys went through not only in traveling to the States but in adjusting to life, education, and customs here.
She knows whereof she writes. Set against the backdrop of the true story of Chinese students sent to New England by their government to study, Dori follows the lives of Woo Ka-Leong Leon and his brother Woo Ka-Sun Carson , their time with the Swann family of Suffield, Connecticut, and their conquest of baseball in a thoroughly satisfying book that will teach young readers about the Chinese, and to see their own culture through foreign eyes.

Anne Mather is one of the classic authors for Harlequin — I can remember reading her books when I first began reading romances many years ago. I loved Forbidden Temptation — it managed to capture that old school, early Harlequin-like vibe will still being a bit more current at the same time. Anne Mather is an accomplished writer, and that comes across no matter what book you read by her. This is a really sweet romance that really made me remember why I enjoy reading so much. Another book from Ms. Mather to add to my collection Mar 02, Christine rated it did not like it.
All in all, a most disappointing read. She was an auto-read for me for many years. Her books reflected the attitudes of the decades she wrote in, but have not kept pace with the millennium, and have steadily declined in their ability to hold my interest. This book felt dated, as though it was written about 20 years ago, and someone dusted it off and sent it for publication because Anne Mather wrote it.
It absolutely d All in all, a most disappointing read. It absolutely did not feel like today. I found neither character particularly engaging or likable. That said, the entire premise of the book lacked credibility - why would this woman, supposedly with a degree in law, fake a relationship with a man she threw off because he cheated on her.
What parents wouldn't understand that? Why is she such a wuss, with everyone? Does the author really expect us to believe that she believes that the ex will pony up the money he's conned out of her parents?
Then the matter of the H having conversations with his dead wife - I could buy into that, perhaps he's hallucinating; but no way could both men be experiencing the same thing! Read this book if you're feeling nostalgic for Anne Mather, or maybe not, because if you were a fan, you'd be upset at how far her writing has fallen.
Mar 31, Andrea Guy rated it it was ok Shelves: I've read books by Anne Mather in the past. She is name that is synonymous with the Presents line. This book had potential, but somewhere it just didn't quite work for me.
This is what I liked about the book. The ghost of Jack's wife. I love a touch of paranormal in romances, especially ghosts. Jack was an unusual hero.
There was attraction there, but the romance was pretty much non-existent. This is what I had problems with. Grace and Jack, there was no real romance between them. Just weird I've read books by Anne Mather in the past. Just weird encounters 2. The whole Sean thing. The guy was a total wankpuffin.
I totally hated him and couldn't grasp why Grace was such a wimp when it came to him. Grace was supposed to be a smart woman, but she let's everyone walk all over her. I can understand some of it, because she doesn't want to upset her mother who is getting over cancer treatments, but still, most of her behavior is uncomfortable and odd. The sex was too gratuitous. I wanted a relationship to develop between the two of them, but it just didn't happen.
So yeah, this wasn't what I was expecting. It definitely didn't live up to past book by Anne. Feb 16, Serena rated it liked it Shelves: I honestly would have given this a much lower rating except the editing is flawless as expected from a major publisher. And I'm not sure if the ridiculous writing is Anne Mather or Harlequin so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.
Though I did have to force myself to finish the book as it was incredibly boring. Grace is a brainless, clueless, simpering idiot you want to smack upside the head every time she In compliance with FTC guidelines, I have won this book through the Goodreads Giveaways. Grace is a brainless, clueless, simpering idiot you want to smack upside the head every time she thinks let alone talks.
And Jack prefers drama and misunderstands to actually holding a conversation with the woman he is instantly in lust with. Oh, and Lisa is one of the worst plot devices I have ever seen. I loved reading both the heroine and hero point of view. I really liked Jack. The only thing I would say that is of a negative view is that I wish we had seen a little more character development and more interaction between Jack and Grace.
A longer length of novel may well have provided this. I found this novel very reminiscent of her earlier novels which I loved very much growing up. Mar 19, Yaritza rated it really liked it. Great romance book with a twist of some paranormal. Loved the way the story turned out. I was surprised that jack was able to see his wife after her death. It made the book very interesting. Jack and Grace were meant for each other from the beginning of the novel.
The Sparks and heated romance was so romantic. I was pissed with the little twist and secret of Jacks wife. Check out the forbidden temptation. Feb 12, Marci rated it liked it.
I love romance books I loved Jack but all the other characters worked on my nerves. Again, I liked the basic idea of the book, just wanted more. Overall, not a bad read Jun 27, Shallowreader VaVeros rated it it was ok Shelves: I only read on because the hero's wife's ghost was the only interesting part of the book. Feb 14, Janine rated it it was ok Shelves: I received this book through Goodreads Giveaways for an honest review.
A Forbidden Temptation was just ok. I liked the chemistry between the main characters but could not stand Grace. The writing was also really fast paced at times and slow other times. Jun 25, Terri Hebert rated it liked it.
Liked this book but was a little slow moving for me. But did enjoy reading it!!! Those who rate this higher please explain to me why? And why is it a harlequin present? It's in the wrong series. For me it's too out in space. To get the free app, enter your mobile phone number. Sponsored Products are advertisements for products sold by merchants on Amazon.
