Navigating Integrity

Navigating the Four Dimensions of Integrity

He goes on to demonstrate how each C and D can help with each of the challenges.

Watts does an excellent job of providing meaningful examples and pertinent quotations to illustrate and support his observations and points. At the end of each chapter there is a succinct summary of the important points and a few questions readers can ask themselves if they would like to do some introspection. A real bonus for readers is the opportunity to participate in the online Leadership Integrity Survey Watts' company provides. It is designed to give participants an idea of how they are currently navigating the integrity journey.

This is a valuable read for anyone. The entire book is strong, particularly the Identity and Accountability challenges which raise questions about values, purpose and stewardship. The emphasis on courage in the final chapter was right on point There is a great deal to like about this book.

Navigating Corruption In Fragile States

Al Watts really nails the importance of integrity in leadership. The book is an easy and very insightful read that should be in every leaders bookshelf! Navigating Integrity is very well written and the concepts fit together well as a mosaic for building an ethical business. That said, I think the real addition that Al Watts makes is in the connecting of these concepts to the day-to-day work of the organization.

It becomes apparent when you talk to him that he has thought through how to make this conceptual model work inside an organization so what he has done is develop a systematic way to assess the ethical nature of a working organization. As we all know, in business it is the implementation that counts! Many books describe the downside of missing integrity. But case studies of Lehman and Enron have been done. What impressed me about Al Watts' book "Navigating Integrity" is that he covers the upside of integrity, of making and keeping promises, and of accepting accountability.

These are the basics of any business, and Watts covers these topics beautifully. He makes a convincing argument that in order to find lasting fulfillment and success, we must embrace four specific values: Identity, Authenticity, Alignment and Accountability. While weaving in sound philosophy, business case examples, and personal stories, it's a quick read with a strong message.

The 4 Integrity Challenges Identity, Authenticity, Alignment and Accountability reinforce the impact leaders' behaviors have on employees and organizations. Great examples and quotes are used to illustrate the key points. In addition, key capabilities and action-oriented questions identify ways for leaders to increase their effectiveness.

A true coffee geek, Jeff believes we should love people well, and the rest will take care of itself. One essential tip he has for social entrepreneurs is to start with the heart and learn to listen to yourself. He also believes life is too short for bad coffee. Spending time with Jeff was magical.

It flew by after exploring many fascinating topics. When we talked about how our world needs more integrated people, Jeff reminded me about the connection between integrity and integration. This digital thread of information can now be preserved throughout an organization, but it is critical that the people who use the technology are aware of why each process step is relevant, and adhere to them at all times. Automation is also a key factor. The best way to ensure this consistency is by making it easier and less time-consuming to perform each routine activity, while passively recording each action for regulatory compliance.

This can be achieved by automation-enabling technology. How can data integrity in the lab be improved by the use of electronic systems? Electronic data systems that automate data transfer allow for the reduction or even elimination of human intervention, and therefore, the reduction of errors.

Audit trails will prove the integrity of the data or show the details of the change. This means any data alteration--voluntary or involuntary--will be either not possible, or any changes will be recorded so it will be obvious that data have been modified.

What are the data integrity risks associated with computerized systems and how can they be diminished? Data are constantly passed back and forth amongst these systems, and may be transformed during the process. At each step along the way, the process must be validated to ensure that the integrity of the data, and the digital thread of information, is preserved. Recently, the trend has been toward consolidation of these disparate systems into more comprehensive solutions, where the data are stored in a single, centralized system and accessed as needed, without the need for constant transformation and transposition.
