Venetia Kellys Traveling Show: A Novel of Ireland

Venetia Kelly's Traveling Show

I think the oral tradition works so much in its favor. Listening to the author read this tale was probably the best part of the experience. This is very much in the style of a classic storyteller - long and leisurely paths to the point. It struck me as very Irish in its meandering style, which is perfect. The characters are not politicians, but express their views freely.

The very personal stories of their lives will surprise and intrigue you. One person found this helpful. Frank Delaney is a clear and concise writer. His characters are interesting and his descriptions of places or deeds paint vivid pictures. Without being overly tedious 60 pages to describe a bug on a leaf his chapters are short which is something I love in a novel.

The story itself is fun and funny. Why would someone run off to join the circus? If you have that dream you will relate to Harry McCarthy. If you don't have the dream this may pique your interest and tap into an undiscovered desire. If you love deep descriptions of Ireland, the land, the lore, the people then Mr.

Delaney is your author. Ordinarily and up until this book, I enjoy Delaney's writing. This book just didn't cut it for me. The plot, the characters -- nothing worked. Not every book is a classic, and this certainly wasn't. Those are far superior books. Good story -- love the author!

I chose this book, looking for a funny , light hearted tale of Ireland, which this is definitely not. It is full of Irish lore, wit, superstition, stories and eccentric characters. Throw in an unexpected love story, a couple of mysteries, and militia training in secret; and you have a book that could appeal to a wide-ranging audience. Other books in the series.
